We all know that oats are whole grains packed with nutrients to help keep our body healthy. They contain nutrients like Thaimin, Riboflavin, Carbohydrate, Protein etc.
But 'oat straw' is also as useful. It is used in the treatment of a number of human sickness or discomfort. They contain Protein, carotene, magnesium, iron calcium, vitamins B1,B2, D, E. It helps in reducing cholesterol naturally, also increases stamina and is hence suggested to people recovering from long-term illness to help rebuild their strength. The plant is also used in herbal treatments for insomnia or multiple sclerosis, anxiety and ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).Consumption of oats helps to naturally lower blood sugar levels in the body. Oat straw does not contain gluten like other grains such as wheat, barley and rye. But in rare cases they are grown in the same fields as wheat or barley and these crops can sometimes contaminate oats with gluten. Therefore people suffering from gluten intolerance may have to exercise caution when eating oats. Approaching a clove tree is an aromatic experience, as the warm, pungent aroma drifts towards you. Cloves have slightly astringent, sweetly pungent and strongly aromatic flavour. The cloves are hand picked to avoid damaging the branches which would in turn affect the subsequent crops. The buds change from a pale russet colour to a darker brown as they dry slowly in the sun. This process cannot be hastened or the cloves become dry, brittle and withered, rather than plump.Cloves are included in many classic spice mixtures, including Indian and Oriental curry powders; Chinese five spice powder; European whole picking spices; for mulling wine; and ground spice mixed for baking.Oil of cloves, is a valuable commodity: it is a strong antiseptic and preservative, and it is used in toothpastes, mouthwashes and gargle preparations. A cotton bud soaked in oil of cloves eases toothache when applied to the tooth.Cloves have a particular association with apples and are added to apple sauce, tarts and pies or other apple puddings. Ground cloves are used to spice rich cakes, biscuits, gingerbreads and puddings from all over the world.
